Welcome to the latest issue of the VPNC Update. We hope you find the news in this issue valuable.
VPNC continues to grow with the always-active IPsec market. Our new members this month are:
CyberGuard
CyberGuard Corporation is a leading provider of network security
solutions to commercial enterprises and governments worldwide.
CyberGuard's integrated firewall/VPN protects businesses from hacking
and enables them to carry out transactions online in a secure
environment. CyberGuard appliances have received the Common Criteria
EAL4 certification. The company has headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida, and branch offices worldwide.
Cyzentech
Cyzentech specializes in production of an integrated network security
system. This system embodies the functions of a VPN, Firewall, and an
intrusion detection system (IDS), with a load-balancing function that
manages network traffic. The group of CyzenSOS products supports a vast
array of ADSL environments as well as LAN and WAN environments. These
products support an average speed of 32Mbps when using TripleDES in
tunneling mode.
VPNC's members are often asked how well their products interoperate with the products of other VPNC members. Because this question comes up so often, VPNC will host its first interoperability demonstration at the upcoming VPNcon conference this month. The demonstration, which is co-sponsored by Network World magazine, will show a mesh of VPN gateways and clients interoperating in real time, and VPNcon attendees will be able to see the administrative interfaces of the products as they send packets over the demonstration net.
The VPNC members participating in this first demonstration are:
In the past weeks, many of you have been looking at your marketing and travel budgets in light of the recent economic downturn, particularly since September 11. The world appears to be heading into some difficult economic times, but the VPN industry is still strong and VPNC's many members have done an excellent job of differentiating themselves in the marketplace.
You have probably heard that some conferences are being cancelled or postponed. VPNcon, probably the best-known conference in our industry, is not among those: it is still taking place as planned October 15-18 in Washington DC. VPNC still strongly supports VPNcon.
Below is a message from VPNcon's sponsors.
|
We are all in this together and need to look for ways to keep the
economy going. To make it easier to attend this conference, the event
sponsors are offering a deep discount for any conference registration.
Please join them in our small way to help businesses stay the course
through these trying times and even with budgets being tightened.
The special registration fee for this "keep the economy going" program is 50% off any conference registration, or free exhibit hall registration. Register on-line using code "CPN6" for a 50% discount. No budget at all? Just attend a number of complimentary programs and events like the Beer and Pizza Debate, the VPNC Interoperability Lab, Networking Receptions, ATM Forum and The Frame Relay Forum session, or AT&T's 5K fun run/walk. A number of special events have been planned to help you get the most out of this educational event. Don't be deterred...attend this important industry event! VPNcon is the only event dealing exclusively with virtual private networks. If you are running a VPN or are thinking about implementing or outsourcing a VPN, VPNcon's speakers and exhibitors are invaluable resources. Register to attend by visiting the VPNcon web site. |

This month, three VPNC members successfully finished their testing for Basic
conformance:
Please see the VPNC conformance page for a complete list of vendors who have received the VPNC conformance logos in all categories.
Interest in the new U.S. medical records privacy rules (dubbed "HIPAA") continues to increase. VPNC's page describing the HIPAA law continues to get high traffic. The page has general information on using IPsec for HIPAA compliance and includes links to VPNC's members HIPAA sites. This month, we added a link to VPNC member eSoft, and the site was also mentioned in the Network World email newsletter on VPNs.

SecGo Solutions has produced an interesting paper on VPNs for service providers. It describes many common VPN scenarios and describes how Internet service providers can help provide VPN services. It goes into detail on the various business cases for different types of providers offering VPN systems.
VPNcon Fall, being held October 15-18, in Alexandria, VA, is a large VPN-specific show with a detailed educational track. VPNC will also be co-hosting an interoperability demonstration, described earlier in the newsletter.
