Last month's IETF meeting helped break the logjam on moving forwards with IKEv2, the long-awaited successor to the IPsec key exchange system. Jeff Schiller, the Area Director responsible for the IPsec Working Group, declared that the Working Group must have a completed protocol to him by February 15, 2003. With this tight deadline, the participants at the meeting came to many agreements that will help get the work done in time. The preliminary minutes of the meeting reflect the status of IKEv2 as well as other important topics that were discussed. VPNC has set up an unofficial IKEv2 status page to help the Working Group track the changes that have to go into the document in the coming few months.
