Welcome to the latest issue of the VPNC Update. We hope you find the news in this issue valuable.
One limitation of interoperability testing is that the products being tested evolve over time. Some testing organizations deal with this by only testing once, ignoring the updated software. VPNC's interoperability testing program actively re-tests new versions of the tested products to make sure that they still interoperate with all the other systems in the VPNC lab. We feel this is important both for VPN users and for VPNC members.
Beginning this month, the VPNC Update will report on the revised products as they are tested. Systems in the VPNC interop test lab which have successfully re-tested with updated software are:

Recently, the IETF has split the PPVPN Working Group into two new, more focused working groups: L2VPN and L3VPN. At the same time as these WGs were chartered, they were moved to the Internet Area of the IETF instead of the Sub-IP Area. Both working groups are still working on provider-provisioned VPNs, but the protocols that they are looking at differ in how the VPNs are set up and maintained by the service provider. It is hoped that this split will both speed up the process of producing standards in the respective areas and reduce the tension between the proponents of the various types of PPVPNs.
