Welcome to the latest issue of the VPNC Update. We hope you find the news in this issue valuable.
The VPNC interoperability test lab continues to grow with more products that show the strength of interoperability in the IPsec VPN market. This month, two products received the Basic Interoperability logos for interoperating with all of the other systems in the VPNC lab:
See the Standards News section for more news about the VPNC interoperability testing logos.
This month, one product received both the Basic Conformance and Rekeying Conformance logos:

An important new VPN-related RFC was issued this month. RFC 3602, "The AES-CBC Cipher Algorithm and Its Use with IPsec", describes how to use the AES encryption algorithm with IPsec. The long-anticipated RFC specifies both the details of using CBC mode and gives test vectors so that implementors can check their hardware and software before releasing it in products. AES is a high-security encryption algorithm that is already seeing wide adoption in IPsec systems.
With the release of this RFC, VPNC will now begin testing AES interoperability in its test lab. This month, VPNC will start issuing its second set of interoperability logos, proving AES interoperability between the systems that support the algorithm according to the RFC. These logos will give buyers who use (or intend to use) AES in their security policies confidence that the disparate IPsec systems will all work together.
Migration Of Legacy Systems & Applications to Broadband IP VPN Infrastructure from Encore Networks, covers how customers who use old, non-Internet protocols such as X.25 to virtual private networks using Internet protocols. It describes many scenarios where the important features of the old network are maintained (and in fact enhanced) by upgrading to modern IP protocols.
