VPNC Testing News

VPNC testing logo

This month, one new product received the logo for Basic Interoperability:

A major difference between VPNC's testing program and many others is that VPNC re-tests the interoperability of members' systems when they update their software or firmware. This re-testing helps assure users that the updates did not adversely affect the interoperability that had been assured earlier.

This month, two systems that already had proven interoperability were retested:

See the VPNC testing page for full lists of all the VPNC members' products which have proven interoperability and conformance.

Featured VPNC Member White Paper

One of the more popular features on VPNC's web site is our extensive list of white papers from our members. These cover a range of topics from VPN basics to cryptography. As interesting new white papers appear, we will list them in the VPNC Update.

IPsec Virtual Private Networks: Conformance and Performance Testing from Ixia, describes the importance of good methodology when testing either for conformance or performance of IPsec systems. It describes the difficulties of creating good metrics for conformance due to the ambiguities in the IPsec specifications, and the challenges of writing performance test suites that are relevant to a particular customer. Of course, it also describes ways of getting over these problems and how to analyze the results of the tests that are run.
