VPN Standards News

A new Informational RFC of interest to the entire VPN community was recently published. RFC 3809, Generic Requirements for Provider Provisioned Virtual Private Networks (PPVPNs), describes PPVPNs from the viewpoint of both the customer and the service provider. However, instead of saying "this is what a PPVPN is", the document describes what a PPVPN must do. It covers the requirements that apply to both layer-2 and layer-3 VPNs; the L2VPN and L3VPN Working Groups are creating their own layer-specific requirements documents.

Upcoming VPN-related Events

China VPN and MPLS Conference
Beijing / August 31 - September 1, 2004
This conference focuses on the use of VPNs, particularly MPLS, in China. It involves manufacturers both from both inside and outside China, as well as major VPN users in China.
