Welcome to the latest issue of the VPNC Update. We hope you find the news in this issue valuable.
This month, VPNC welcomes another new member:
QA Cafe.
QA Cafe is a provider of IP testing solutions that allow
developers and test engineers to reliably test IP networking
functionality. QA Cafe test suites provide comprehensive verification
for wireless, CPE, SOHO, and VPN routers. QA Cafe's flagship product,
CDRouter, is used today by most of the major manufacturers of routers
and CPE devices throughout the world. CDRouter offers testing of PPPoE,
DHCP, NAT, SIP, IKE, IPSEC, NAT-T and over 40 different IP protocols.
This month, one member with the IPsec Basic Interoperability logo also received the IPsec AES interoperability logo:
See the VPNC testing page for full lists of all the VPNC members' products which have proven interoperability.

Last month, this column focused on the new RFCs for IPsec, particularly RFC 4306 for IKEv2. This month, the focus is on a new RFC that applies equally to IKEv1 and IKEv2. RFC 4308, "Cryptographic Suites for IPsec", describes optional suites of cryptographic algorithms that simplify the administration of IKEv1 or with IKEv2.
The new RFC lists optional, non-mandatory suites that may be presented to system administrators to ease the burden of choosing among the many options in IPsec systems. The suites, called "VPN-A" and "VPN-B", represent common sets of algorithms used in secure IPsec VPNs. For instance, VPNC's Basic Interoperability logos use the same settings as "VPN-A". The idea is that user interfaces could say "Suite VPN-A" instead of forcing the user to choose an encryption algorithm, a hash algorithm, a Diffie-Hellman group, and so on.
It is hoped that many VPNC members will adopt these two suites in the user interfaces in the near future. This will both help their users by making the interfaces easier as well has help interoperability in general by reducing user error when they set up their VPNs.
RSA Conference 2006
San Jose, California / February 13-17, 2006
The RSA Conference is one of the largest security-specific expositions in the
world. It has a very wide educational track and a large exposition floor; many
VPNC members exhibit at the show every year. VPNC's director, Paul Hoffman,
will lead the panel on "The Future of One-way Hash Functions in the IETF".
Interop Spring 2006
Las Vegas, NV / April 30 - May 5, 2006
Probably the largest networking show in the world, this conference has a
sizable show floor for vendors and a large, fast-paced educational track.
Because of the large attendance, many VPNC members regularly exhibit at
Interop.
