The IETF has issued a new standard that applies to IPsec VPNs. MOBIKE, the IKEv2 Mobility and Multihoming Protocol, was recently issued as RFC 4555. MOBIKE is an extension to IKEv2 to allow easy changing of IP addresses for remote access clients, such as laptop or cell phone users who want to keep their VPN connections as they move from one location to another.
This use case is still fairly rare because there has not been a standard secure mechanism to make it possible. As more IPsec gateways deploy MOBIKE, it is expected that this type of moving around will become much more common. The MOBIKE protocol is the work of the recently-concluded IETF Working Group of the same name, co-chaired by VPNC's director Paul Hoffman.
Interop New York
New York, NY / September 18-22, 2006
This is a smaller version of Interop Las Vegas, which is
probably the largest networking show in the world. This conference has a
sizable show floor for vendors and a large, fast-paced educational track.
Because of the large attendance, many cybersecurity vendors
regularly exhibit at Interop.
