Re: notify remote device about Xauth

Hi,

1) The Vendor ID payload says "I know how to speak XAUTH".  It doesn't say "We must do XAUTH".

2) The Vendor ID payload is not authenticated.

To have successful interop, you'll have to use both Vendor ID and Notification via Authentication Method Types.

Subject: notify remote device about Xauth

Hi,
It is neccessary  that edge device should  inform the   remote device  that Xauth follows once after completing the phase 1 exchange . (this is what they specified in Xauth draft)
We are any how  exchanging the vendor Id payload in the first two messages of phase 1   which is
sufficient   to notify a remote device  that 'Xauth ' follows   once after completion  of  Phase 1 exchanges.
In the Xauth draft  they specified two methods to notify the remote device  about Xauth :
1)Notification payloads with in Phase 1 exchange.
2)Notification  via Authentication Type.

My question is why    to  use    above two methods    even  though we already have  'Vendor ID ' option to notify  the remote host about  'Xauth'  ?
Which  method is more justified  to notify the remote device about Xauth  either by using 'Vendor Id' or 'Notification payload ' or  'Notification via Authentication types' ?

bye
